Dr. Sanjiv Shamrao Thakur is an Indian surgical gastroenterologist, laparoscopic surgeon and an endoscopist with a post-doctoral fellowship in G.I. Surgery. He has specialized in the emerging branch of bariatric surgery and is the Head of the Institute of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sarvopchar Rugnalay (Civil hospital, Solapur) and the Dean of Dr. Vaishampayan Memorial Government Medical College, Solapur. He is the founder of the Minimal Access, Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery unit at the Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sarvopchar Rugnalay, Solapur and also in the government set up across the nation. He is one the first laparoscopic surgeons in Maharashtra
to incept laparoscopic surgeries routinely in the government set up with an outstanding record of 75% laparoscopic surgeries in one of the monthly sessions at B.J. Government Medical College and Sasoon hospital, Pune. He has an exemplary record of 90,000 open surgeries and 25,000 laparoscopic surgeries in his career of 30 years.
